definitely not an issue with the image build system, moving it to the
kernel(though these are completely unsupported community images, i'm not
sure they use the properly maintained kernel from the archive in which
case you should contact the image author instead)
** Also affects: linux-raspi2 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided

Title:
Ubuntu 16.04 unable to boot on Raspberry Pi 3
Status in linux-raspi2 package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Status in livecd-rootfs package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I'm trying to run the Ubuntu 16.04 ARM image, published at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi/RaspberryPi3, but during boot,
it will routinely give me one of two errors:
"fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed"
"null pointer exception"
Either message is fatal and requires me to manually power-cycle the Pi
to continue. Often, the error will reoccur, but after 3 or 4 cycles it
will usually boot successfully.
To rule out hardware problems, I've tested two different Pi3, as well
as several SD cards, doing write checks on the SD cards to ensure
there are no faults. These errors have occurred on many different
combinations of Pi3s and cards, implying it's a software issue.
