Title:
  grub-pc over-writes MBR on update

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub2

As of the last day or so, it appears that running "update-grub" to
generate a new grub.cfg also over-writes the MBR to "re-root" grub to
the partition concerned, which is not always appropriate or desired.

In my case, I have two lucid installs in parallel, one from an alpha
install, one from beta with all the latest configurations for testing.
I update the older one at intervals, but would like the beta-based one
  to retain control of booting.

Now after an update to the kernel of the alpha-based install (A) the
MBR points to grub2 in A rather than the beta-based install (B).
Presumably when i update grub in B it will switch back - but this
seems unnecessarily complicated and confusing. Please can this be re-
  considered?
