Title:
mkfs.etx3 waiting for confirmation when formatting entire device

Status in partman-ext3 package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in partman-ext3 package in Debian:
  Unknown

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: debian-installer

When installing Ubuntu 9.10 one can format entire disk and use it as
one big partition without creating partition table on that particular
disk. In the background the debian installed does something like
  "mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda"

The problem is, that mkfs is waiting for confirmation:

"/dev/sda is entire device, not just one partition!
  Proceed anyway? (y,n)"

User gets no information, about what's going on and has no user-
friendly way to confirm formating the disk. Entire progress is stalled
at 33% and computer stays idle.

The only way out of this situation is to switch to another console and
  do something like:

  echo "yes">/proc/PID/fd/0

where PID is the proccess id of stalled mkfs.

Automatic confirmation or popup window with confirmation question
  would be more novice-proof.
