  STEPS TO REPRODUCE
   1. boot an affected image
   2. select "Check disc for defects" from the GRUB menu
  
  EXPECTED RESULTS
  A report of whether or not there are defects.
  
  ACTUAL RESULTS
  No report is made at all.
