Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  we need support for systemd because both sudo and su are broken
  systemd sets a XDG_RUNTIME_DIR for /run/user/<UID>
  when doing su or sudo XDG_RUNTIME_DIR does not get set and /run/user/0 does not get created
