You are using the GUID Partition Table on that drive.  This requires you
to create a 1 mb bios_grub partition in order to install grub there.

  tried to install BTRFS partician using lxde 15.10 installer.
  both attempts failed.
  deleted old partitions on the drive.
  Grub is not recognizing BTRFS.  shrug.
