The error here corresponds to a segfault from the update-notifier-common
postinst script.  This script is a script, containing no binaries.  The
programs it invokes are also either scripts, or core utilities that have
very few crasher bugs.

Please show the output from the following command:
sudo sh -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/update-notifier-common.postinst triggered /usr/share/package-data-downloads
