i downloaded multipath-tools source package from
http://packages.ubuntu.com/wily-updates/multipath-tools

and rebuilt it on trusty as described here http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq
/rebuilding-ubuntu-debian-linux-binary-package/

  multipath does not work generating such messages:

  no problems with linux-image-3.19.0-33-generic (3.19.0-33.38~14.04.1).
