[Bug 1602429] [NEW] Crash when upgrading from 14.04 to 15 "Willy Werefolf": "Could not calculate the upgrade"

Public bug reported:

I'm using Software Updater to attempt an upgrade to Ubuntu 15.  In Step
2 of the upgrade ("Setting new software channels") it returns this
error:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

Of the three causes listed:

 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 - I don't believe 15 is in pre-release, right?
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 - I am not.  However, I did upgrade to 14.04 from 12.10;  would this have an impact?
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
 - In the Software Update options I unchecked everything.

Any advice appreciated.
