What do you mean by "mixed method"?
The mini.iso image can be booted from a CD drive, and pulls the files it
needs for installation from the Ubuntu archive or a local mirror.
If you are netbooting, the netboot.tar.gz is normally what you would
download and unpack, not the mini.iso.
Both of these images will tend to have a more recent kernel than the
most recent point release, since the point release is every 6 months and
the netboot image's kernel may change as frequently as once every 3
weeks (the kernel SRU cadence).
The point release CD image can boot from a CD drive and contains all the
files needed for a base install, without requiring network access.
Network access will be required for updates (including security updates)
and additional package installation.
** Package changed: kernel-package (Ubuntu) => debian-installer (Ubuntu)

Title:
The kernel version is different between mini.iso and ubuntu 14.04.3 LE
Status in debian-installer package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
---Problem Description---
mini.iso for ubuntu 14.04.3 LE is not available
Contact Information = gfgaogf at cn.ibm.com
---uname output---
~ # uname -a Linux (none) 3.19.0-25-generic #26~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 24 21:17:43 UTC 2015 ppc64le GNU/Linux
Machine Type = S822LC(openpower-firestone)
---Debugger---
A debugger is not configured
---Steps to Reproduce---
We want to boot from network using Ubuntu14.04.3. So we use initrd.gz from mini.iso, and vmlinux from Ubuntu 14.04.3 full LE ISO. We use the two files as booting files.
We download ISO from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/14.04.3/release/ubuntu-14.04.3
-server-ppc64el.iso
We download mini.iso from http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists
/trusty-updates/main/installer-ppc64el/current/images/vivid-
netboot/mini.iso
The kernel version of mini.iso is "3.19.0-32". But the kernel version
of 14.04.3 full le ISO is "3.19.0-25".
My questions:
Can we use them by the mixed method? The mini.iso and the le full iso should not have the same kernel version?
Or if the mixed method is not permitted, if I want to netboot ubuntu14.04.3, where can I get the mini.iso or the netbootable initrd.gz?
