thanks Gunnar, I will try and test this soon.

however I did notice your use of XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is not consistent
with the spec. It changed when it became an official spec, which allows
specifying multiple values colon seperated

gnome-shell  XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP  set as GNOME
gnome-shell classic mode is set as "GNOME-Classic:GNOME"
gnome flashback,was setting as Unity, but at some point will likely become "GNOME-Flashback:GNOME"

Bug description:
  In the gnome-language-selector one is able to set the "Keyboard input
  method system". For instance on my system I can either set it to
  "none", "IBus", or "fcitx". However there is no such option in the
  gnome-control-center's Region & Language section, though I think that
  there should be.
