BTW, I'm surprised you have kernel dmesg displaying correctly, e.g.:

[    0.008233] Initializing cgroup subsys cpuacct

Shows for me over c3270 console as:

Y    0.008233"Initializing cgroup subsys cpuacct

with Y with an accent. I wonder if it's my lpar|z/VM configuration
issue, and/or c3270 client issue.

  Impossible to see the LVM manager configuration during Ubuntu16.04 installation.
  When press "display configuration detailes" button in LVM manager the installation stops working (unimplemented function).
  It works however then no volume groups are created.

  To reproduce the bug:
  1. Start Ubuntu installation on LPAR 
  2. Attach 2 or more DASDs
  3. Make a volume group, logical volume (optional), using LVM manager
  4. Try to choose "display configuration details"
