changing brands of mice connected seems to resolve the issue. It is my
assumption after speaking with others, that the driver for this cheap
series of wired mice (I tried three of the same Inland brand, slightly
different models) is no longer supported, or being blocked from loading
after the upgrade to 16.04.

Title:
Mouse stops at login after upgrade
Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
After upgrading to 16.04, my mouse stops after logging in. It is still
seen by the system when I run 'lsusb' and works fine at the welcome
screen, but after Unity starts to load the mouse stops being able to
be moved. I have touch screen as well (System76 sablet3), which still
works. After I use the touch screen, the mouse cursor disappears.
Issue persists after multiple updates and reboots.
