[Bug 1573646] [NEW] Kubuntu upgrade from 15.10 to 16.04 fails

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After upgrade to kubuntu 16.04, desktop is no longer drawn.   X starts,
but no desktop, just a blank black screen.

System previously was kubuntu 15.10.  Only thing "interesting" about it
was the selection of using the nvidia proprietary drivers, installed
through the ubuntu "additional drivers" updater.

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised.  I don't think I've ever seen an
ubuntu upgrade succeed for a minor release less than .3  (ie:  maybe
16.04.03's upgrader would have worked)

Going to check home directory backups (redo if necessary), wipe and do a
fresh install tonight.
