Public bug reported:
I'm submitting this here rather than upstream because it appears (from
http://joeyh.name/code/alien/news/no_longer_maintaining_alien/) that
there is no upstream maintainer. If I'm wrong and there's somebody else
to whom I should be submitting this, please point me in the right
direction.
The attached patch adds to alien the ability for it to do "magic"
transformation of paths in a tar file into appropriate Linux filesystem
paths. This is useful when what you've got is a distribution-independent
binary tar file distributed by a package maintainer which just has the
files in it, without the appropriate filesystem layout.
See the docs that the patch adds for additional information.
