[Bug 1685281] [NEW] Installation of GRUB boot-loader failed

 platform: AMD Ryzen

when trying to install ubuntu 17.04 zestyzapus on an AMD Ryzen 7 system,
having a 1TB hard drive and creating a ~ 400GB for the operating System and installing the GRUB boot loader to the hard drive (without a partition) in uefi mode the installation fails.

note: I used the 'startup disk creator' on ubuntu 16.10 LTS to create a
bootable usb stick.
