Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:  'E:Dynamic MMap ran out of room. Please increase the size of APT::Cache-Limit. Current value: 25165824. (man 5 apt.conf), E:Error occurred while processing kwrite (NewVersion1), E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid-updates_main_binary-amd64_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

Bug description:
  hi

  I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 after a problem with external usb devices, which didesolved the problem and left me with no root and more problems... 
  After using computer janitor and synaptic package manager my update manager no longer works... and gives me this error message.
  Could not initialise the package information

  An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package
  information.

  Please report this bug for the 'update-manager' package and try to
  include the following error message:

  'E:Dynamic MMap ran out of room. Please increase the size of APT
  ::Cache-Limit. Current value: 25165824. (man 5 apt.conf), E:Error
  occurred while processing libtntnet-dev (NewFileDesc2), E:Problem with
  MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu
  .com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_universe_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package
  lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

  i have been looking for solutions on the forums but seem to be getting my self future away form a solution any help would be appreciated
