[Bug 1664066] Re: view boot messages

That's the 'Esc' key.

If you hit Esc and you see no boot messages still, that's because you're
booting with the 'quiet' kernel option, which is the default option in
Ubuntu by design.

And both the 'quiet' and 'splash' options are configurable so that you
can get the full messages at boot if you don't want the splash screen.

Closing, not a bug in the plymouth package.

Title:
  view boot messages

Status in plymouth package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Boot messages can be really live-saving.
You can find lots of threads and discussions on the question "how can I make boot messages readable" - there are quite some ideas how to edit grub config files to achieve that, some may work, many do not.

I think, it's a very basic requirement that a good OS can display boot
messages, so I can easily see what's going wrong in the case something
goes wrong. Some people may like the splash screen eye candy - well,
  granted.

But in any case, there must be a trick to make the boot messages
console visible with one single keystroke. In any variant and flavour.
  Always. Ever. And reliable.
