What leads you to believe the updates were not being installed?
history.log file clearly shows unattended-upgrades running:

Title:
Security updates installed automatically?
Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I open this bug as suggested in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/466494
so i copy here the question:
On 'Software & Updates' i have set 'Dowload and install automatically' for security updates. When I start Software Updater I see a lot of Security updates pending that should be installed automatically.
I can document the problem here on Yakky:
corrado at corrado-yak-new:~$ uname -a
Linux corrado-yak-new 4.8.0-37-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 26 02:27:07 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
corrado at corrado-yak-new:~$ inxi

corrado at corrado-yak-new:~$
but I found the same problem in Ubuntu Xenial.
I ask this question because the problem was posted in:
http://forum.ubuntu-it.org/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=618262
where You can find some screenshot about
thanks
