This bug was fixed in the package casper - 1.384

casper (1.384) artful; urgency=medium

  * scripts/casper-bottom/15autologin:
    force gdm to start on the live a X session as ubiquity is currently
    crashing with it (LP: #1702904). We also want to ensure we are using
    X anyway until we are ready to switch to wayland.

Bug description:
  As ubiquity isn't compatible with wayland and we want to ensure we can
  start the live session with most systems, force X in gdm until we are
  ready to switch.
