Thank you, Phillip. I realized what you tell me, since I tried the
install procedure with a dvd, instead of a usb pen-drive. For some
strange reason, the caveats I was offered with the dvd installation disk
(burned with the same iso download), where much more comprehensive and
suggesting than with the usb installation.

All in all, it worked perfectly.

  Could not install grub 2

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  I had to reinstall my broken ubuntu 16.04 Stella upgrade. While
  reinstalling, the grub2 installation was aborted.

  I am in the middle of the installation, so I can not tell which
  release it is, nor the version of the package.

  3) I expect the progra, to install withiut problems.
  4) The failed installation of grub interrupted the process.
