there is nothing we can do without any verbose information for the
build. -fstack-protector-strong is supported for a while now.

trying to make the kernel (4.12) I got the following error-messages:
make -j5# #2

Cannot use CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG: -fstack-protector-strong not supported by compiler
