Btw. yes, 2GB is fine for smaller Ubuntu systems I even have some 1GB
systems over here, but mainly in VM and KVM - so we indeed have such
small systems for some tests or for just trying out certain aspects and
functions as well.

A good common sense is to just select in d-i the min. required stuff for the initial setup and install anything else on top of that after the initial setup got completed.
It provides also a better user experience due to the more convenient package mgnt tools.

It is not really possible to estimate the required RAM if installing all
of the archive options, because the services are started upon
installation. And they may even have different requirements that change
from version to version.

The disk space estimation can also only be done quite roughly and is based on the package unpacked size. But keep in mind that postinst package scripts may create more files that again consume more disk space.
For example postgresql create and starting new clusters,
or backups and snapshots are taken
which at the end can eat a lot of space in /var.

  Installer version: 20101020ubuntu451.10
  Kernel: 4.4.0-62-generic

  Description/Reproduction:
  Tried an installation with every package selected except the following:

  Mythbuntu master backend
  Mythbuntu slave backend
  Mythbuntu frontend
  Xubuntu minimal installation
  Xubuntu desktop
  Audio recording and editing suite
  Video creation and editing suite

  The installer fails finishing the step "Select and install software".
  I get prompted e.g. for the MySQL root password or the postfix
  configuration, but the step does not come to an end.
