To install Ubuntu in UEFI mode, you should use the 64 bit image.

Or install Ubuntu in BIOS mode.

  ubuntu 16.04 fails to install grub-efi to / target / and then the
  entire install crashes. this has happened repeatedly after trying to
  install 3 different times
