Title:
gnupg modern ed25519 doesn't work in ubuntu 16.04 for encrypting files

Status in gnupg2 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
ed25519 is a safe curve. And supposedly, it was unsupported in ubuntu
xenial... because the authors of gnupg disabled it in version 2.1.1.1
  for encryption purposes.

could you perhaps update it to the 2.1.15 version? Because the other
curves are not secure my comparison...

Look at this page and you will see what I mean...

  https://safecurves.cr.yp.to/

I tried to make an ecc/ecc key and option 1 was missing...

so I suspect... that it is disabled for version 2.1.1.1

I don't intend to use this for anything enigmail related. I just want
  to encrypt files with it.

This shows some fixes by the way
