Im having this exact problem on the Ubuntu 16.10 Server PowerPC
installation image.

Nearly identical hardware as well.

platform : PowerMac
model : PowerMac7,3

Error output,
Setting up lasvpd (1.7.7-1ubuntu1) ...
vpdupdate is not supported on the Unknown platform
