Title:
symlink of /bin/open to /bin/openvt obsolete

Status in kbd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: kbd

As of intrepid (8.10) and kbd 1.14.1-3ubuntu3, kbd installs a symlink
from /bin/open to /bin/openvt. This legacy behaviour doesn't seem to
be depended-upon by any scripts within the distro itself, which all
refer to the appropriate /bin/openvt. I can understand keeping this
functionality to avoid breaking scripts the distro uses (though any
such scripts should be rewritten to use the more appropriate command
name), but it really doesn't seem necessary to keep it. This would
free a package such as xdg-utils to use the command 'open' as a link
to something of more immediate utility, namely xdg-open.
