The scheduling isn't  as precise as  I'd  like, but I'll take it.
Basically  your options  are divided into 2 blocks  of time - daytime
and night. After you  assign a place to sleep you pick one part of  the
the home for the follower to  work.  I wouldn't recommend selecting the
"guard"  option.  They'll  attack  every other  NPC  aside  from you,
including  other followers.
