You tried to install grub to /dev/dm-0, which is an LVM logical volume.
It must be installed on a hard disk such as /dev/sda instead.

Title:
Grub could not install in automated install
Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I have just tried to install Ubuntu 17.10 Daily image (downloaded
yesterday evening CET). At the end of install I get a fatal error that
Grub could not install to /dev/dm-0 (I think). Then I tried /dev/sda1
and /dev/sda with same result. The original device was not in the list
to choose.
