Title:
  Ubuntu crashes while installing, can't install "grub-install/dev/sda"

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  I've tried installing Ubuntu on an Asus M51V Laptop, the specs are:

  Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU @ 2.26ghz
  4GB Ram
  250Gb SATA HDD

  When it gets to the "Running 'grub-install/dev/sda'..." part of the
  install, it hangs for about 10-15 minutes and then returns an error:

  Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda
  Executing 'grub-install/dev/sda' failed.
  This is a fatal error.

  It then gives me 3 options to choose from, either to try install on a
  different SDA, continue with installation but will need boot repair or
  cancel installation - and no matter which option I select, the
  installer crashes.

  I have tried to perform a Boot Repair using boot-repair-disk, which
  said the restore was successful, it created the following information
  dumb at:

  paste.ubuntu.com/23377240

  If anybody could shed some light it would be very much appreciated!
