Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. If you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect 1446378

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Title:
  debian installer does not find external hard disc on final installer.

  Incomplete

Bug description:
  to reproduce dd the vivid alternate amd64 420 iso to a usb stick then
  try to select the usb external hard drive to install on the entire
  disc which is not given as an option but the flash drive of the
  installer is listed as an option.

  I expected to be able to install to the entire external hard disc. Instead I could only install to the ssd in the laptop or the flash drive I booted the alternate installer from. I will be attached other debug logs as you cannot launch ubuntut-bug from debian-installer .
