It appears that you still have the package binutils from Ubuntu 14.04
installed on your system. From VarLogDistupgradeAptclonesystemstate we
can see:
binutils 2.24-5ubuntu14.1 0
Please upgrade that package to the version of the one for Ubuntu 16.04
and any other packages that may be out of date. Thanks and good luck.
