Recovery didn't complete either, and left the system booting to text
screen.  No graphics, no Unity.  I recovered with:

sudo apt --fix-broken install
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt dist-upgrade
sudo apt autoremove

Made no change to Secure Boot setting.

System is good.  Using it now.
