I think overriding the database in those cases would be a reasonably
easy solution and it would not require adding switches which would be
rarely used.

Title:
Override parameters from the command line: bootdevice, kernel path,
  initrd path and script path

Status in flash-kernel package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
While building armhf images in chroot, i usually need to install
kernel, initrd, script, etc in unusual places (or at least places
different than the one presented in the database), so i came up with
these command line switched that let me override the values loaded
  from the db.
