Ah - I suspected something of the sort. Because the 'entire disc' is a 32GB
SSD (eMMC?), I used the partitioner to define /home on a separate 128GB
MicroSD card, splitting my install onto two drives. I am not satisfied with
the result - LibreOffice Writer will not launch. But I don't know if it's
my faulty installation (currently Legacy Mode) or an inadequacy of the
machine. My only use case is mobile documentation, Writer is the one piece
I need to work. I have installed but not yet tested some other word
processing applications. I will try again (probably with Lubuntu instead of
Ubuntu Mate, in case it's a resources issue), and see if I can figure out
how to partition in GPT. The UEFI boot is much faster; Windows10 is much
faster, which just can't be right! Thanks.
