[Bug 1775053] [NEW] package python3-distupgrade 1:18.04.18 failed to install/upgrade: installed python3-distupgrade package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 139

Public bug reported:

Just a regular upgrade of my system. I noticed that while doing the
update I got:

Setting up python3-distupgrade (1:18.04.18) ...
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
dpkg: error processing package python3-distupgrade (--configure):
installed python3-distupgrade package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 139

looks like a segv. How did it get to be released with a segv? I expect
the developer to do an install test of his package. It appears to lead
to these errors:

 Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-firmware_1.173.1_all.deb
 /var/cache/apt/archives/software-properties-common_0.96.24.32.3_all.deb
 /var/cache/apt/archives/software-properties-gtk_0.96.24.32.3_all.deb
 /var/cache/apt/archives/python3-software-properties_0.96.24.32.3_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I assume the log and my system info will automatically go with this
report.
