You are booting in bios mode, but using a GPT partitioned disk.  This
requires you to create a 1 mb bios_grub partition on the disk.

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda 
  Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda failed' 
  was encountered during 20120925 amd64+mac server installation with software RAID1 setup. (one ext4 mounted on / and another on /boot and one swap)

  Degraded boot option was selected.

  Aptitude was left with default options
