Title:
  update manager and synaptic package manager crashe after entering the
  root password query

Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

  when i open the update manager to check for updates, click on "check"
  button, then the query of entering the password shows up, after
  entering the password, a new window pops titled "Downloading package
  information" but without anything,, just empty window, and the update
  manager and the new window just remain frozen >as u can see in the
  photo... i am able to kill the update manager via the system monitor,
  but the other window just stays till the end of the gnome session.
  also this happen when synaptic launches, just after i enter the
  password. I am able to update the system and install packages from
  repositories via the terminal normally using the apt-get install and
  the apt-get update/upgrade. this is my first bug report from scratch
  cuz i didnt find a similar bug- or didnt get it..
