Just for the record. To enter a password there's no need of any GUI plus
it's cumbersome. First, make it work perfect, then you can add the
decoration.

Due to unexpected bugs like this:

I think all graphical "enhancements" should be disabled by default. No
fancy graphics or anything, and remove quiet and splash from grub's
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= as well.
