You need to install grub to a hard disk such as /dev/sda, rather than a
partition as you did ( /dev/sdb1 ).

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid

Title:
  ubiquity crashed when unable to run grub-install, which I don't want
  to run anyway

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  When I install a new system, I do not want the boot process to be
  modified. So I generally ask grub to be installed in a location where
  it cannot be installed, to avoid my specific boot sequence to be
  modified. I run grub-mkconfig to update grub menu in the way I want it
  to be modified.

  Please, insert an option in ubiquity to dismiss grub's installation.
