You have extra spaces in /etc/default/grub when you changed
GRUB_CMDLINE_DEFAULT:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = ""

There shouldn't be spaces around the =.

Closing as Invalid since this isn't a bug in grub.
