I only get login screen when selecting "Try Ubuntu without installing" from boot menu. If I boot without selecting any options - I land on installer where I choose "Try Ubuntu" and it goes straight to desktop, without displaying login.
Yes, it was actually https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1792932 - got same error messages in log.
