Bug description:
  removed ubuntu-desktop because it hung up the login screen when
  selected.  Added mate-desktop but the same thing happened.  apt-get
  upgrade, update app, and synaptic could not fix error.  apt-get -f
  install also could not fix the 2 missing or broken packages.
