  xubuntu 18.10 boots to blank screen on virtualbox

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  while booting the cosmic daily on virtualbox Version 5.2.18 r124319,
  rather than the option to try or install.

  All I get is a blank screen. I have to hit a key on startup to get the
  text menu and either install or try from there.
