Thanks for replying! In this case, I believe that "Invalid" is the
correct status.

  upgrade xenial --> bionic :cannot compute upgrade

Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  I am unaware of any unsupported packages installed that would prevent the upgrade from working. 
  I removed as many ppa's as possible, removed any unsupported programs which might be a problem, and fixed the parsing error 'Metadata files have errors: /var/cache/app-info/xmls/fwupd.xml'. I'm at a loss at this point.
