[Bug 1787697] Re: Upgrade from 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS due to ubuntu-toolchain test ppa

I have the same problem. I used ppa-purge to remove the ppa graphics
drivers. I noticed it's now deselcted in Software & Updates > Other
Software. I've successfully run sudo apt update, sudo apt upgrade and
sudo apt dist-upgrade. Finally when running sudo do-release-upgrade it
still couldn't calculate the upgrade.

I did notice in Software & Updates > Additional Drivers that the NVIDIA
binary driver version 384.145 (proprietary) is still selected. Will this
block the upgrade?

How else can I determine what software is preventing the upgrade, if
that is infact the problem?

Title:
Upgrade from 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS due to ubuntu-toolchain test ppa

Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I was offered the upgrade to 18.04 LTS. I selected, "Upgrade". It
started ticking off bullets on the list, and then said,

  |
  | Could not calculate the upgrade
  |
  | An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.
  |
  | This can be caused by:
  | * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
  | * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
  | * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
  |
  | If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-| upgrader-core' in a terminal.
  |

As you can see, it doesn't really tell me what I need to fix to get
the upgrade to calculate correctly (ie. the actual thing it found that
  it didn't like).

I don't want to fall behind, but this bug seems to block me from
upgrading. It needs to provide remedy details to allow the operator
to make targeted corrections and then run again. Too little info
  provided to be useful.
