Ok solved it

/var/log/installer was a file so I just removed it.
also installed python-qt4

now everything works

Bug description:
  I did allow normal installs, not only lts. but it always ends with the
  same error

  output of lsb_release -rd:

  I'm not sure what is going on, but I did have some DNS related issues
  where resolv.conf was getting overwritten with the 127 address which
  made apt, wget, ping stop working.
