Found this bug report while searching for a solution to the problem.
After my machine (recently upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10) has been
running for a while it has the same issue. ahavi-daemon uses 100% of
available CPU. Restarting it helps for a little while but then CPU usage
jumps up again.

Bug description:
There are various good reasons to uninstall avhai. But wine is
presently (as of Natty) packaged to depend on avhai.
# sudo apt-get remove avahi-daemon
The following packages will be REMOVED:
avahi-daemon avahi-utils lib32nss-mdns libnss-mdns telepathy-salut wine wine1.2
