Title:
Live CD does not work properly with no network on systems with
  wireless cards

Status in netcfg package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I have an IBM ThinkPad T42 with 1)an ethernet card (e1000) and 2)a wireless card
  (ipw2200). I decided to
give the Hoary Live CD Array 3.5 a spin recently. While it worked very well
when I was in range of a wireless connection (and in fact configured it for me
with DHCP), away from a network (no ethernet or wireless) it didn't work right.

When I booted, it went through the network configuration process as usual -
however, it kept asking me over and over for the ESSID of the wireless network
(I was not in range of one!) This same issue can be seen on the install CD if
you pick the wi-fi card to configure during install - but it can be worked
around by selecting the network card.

This, however, can't be done on the live CD. The only way to skip the wireless
network part of the live CD startup is to skip the network step altogether,
which causes the loopback interface not to be configured (which in turn causes a
plethora of problems in the usage of the system - see bug 9532 for more on this).

Note: marked this critical because it is critical for the live CD release (not
the install CD release, though, as this can be worked around by selecting the
  network card in that case)
