mention an issue with nouveau crashing during the installation process.
You might take a look at those and see if the work around helps you out.

  Fresh installation of Kubuntu 20.04 on an Intel i3 system.  Currently
  it's running 18.10 without issue.  The graphical installer hangs at
  "configuring apt   9%"  Attached is output from dmesg and
  /proc/cpuinfo
